The 24hr Cycle Challenge is into its second year and is currently the only
event of its kind in Ireland. The 24hr Cycle Challenge takes place outside of
Newport in Co. Mayo.
There are two disciplines to choose from, road biking or mountain biking.
The mountain bike track is an ongoing development and will see the single
track built for last year’s event extended for the 2010 event. The road route
has changed from last year and has been shortened to approx 25km. The route
takes people past some of the stunning scenery the area has to offer.
The event attracts a wide spectrum of competitors from the hard core soloists
who cycle for 24hrs to the groups of friends who ‘give it a go’, some opting
to take a nap during the hours of darkness. The aim of the event is to complete
as many laps of the route as you or your team can in the 24hr period.
There will be a purpose built campsite in operation for the weekend; it will
be located beside the race transition area. There will be an event after party
with live music, a hearty meal and of course the prize giving on the Sunday
night at the Newport Hotel in Newport.
