Win a
pair of Detec carbon wheels |
Brim Brothers is running an online survey to help decide the features of a new
power meter being designed by the company. All cyclists are being invited to
complete the survey, whether they use a power meter or not. To encourage
participation in the survey Brim Brothers is offering all who complete it a
chance to win a pair of Detec full carbon deep rim wheels, supplied by www.CycleSuperStore.ie
The survey is open to cyclists of all disciplines, including leisure, road,
track, cyclo-cross, triathlon, and MTB. Brim Brothers also emphasise that
they’re asking riders of every level, from recreational weekenders right up to
professionals, to do the survey. Most of the questions are very general, and the
survey should only take about 5 minutes to complete. All the questions can be
answered without typing; point and click is all that’s needed. No personal
identifying information is required by the survey.
The company is particularly keen to get responses from a mix of riders who
use power meters and riders who don’t. For those who have a power meter, this
is a chance to say what’s good and what’s not so good about it. For those
who don’t have a power meter, the survey asks for opinions on possible future
use of one.
Power measurement is being used increasingly by coaches and training
programmes as the basis for setting goals and tracking progress. It is generally
accepted that power output is a much more useful measure of training zone and of
training progress than heart rate alone. According to Training and Racing with a
Power Meter by renowned experts Hunter Allen and Andrew Coggan, “Using a power
meter can take your training to a new level”.
The use of power meters for training and performance monitoring in cycling is
spreading, and it is predicted that within a few years they will become as
common as heart rate monitors are now. Many professional teams already use power
meters on their bikes during races, so that they can monitor and analyse
riders’ performances much more accurately than with just heart rate, cadence,
speed etc.
Brim Brothers, based in Dublin Ireland, was started in 2008 by two cycling
engineers to develop a new power meter that would overcome the limitations of
existing meters. The company believes that its patented technology and unique
approach will allow it to develop a power meter that will challenge the
established brands and provide riders with a more usable training tool.
