Background:
Cycling
Ireland (CI) has a coaching opportunity for a talented and ambitious
individual to work within its coaching and sporting programmes. CI is
looking to employ a Coaching Education Officer to work in facilitate
the development of coaching courses. In the first instance this role
is on a fixed term contract from January 2010 to January 2011.
Subject to further funding the role will be reviewed and renewed on
an annual basis through to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic
Games.
Coach
Education Officer:
The Coach
Education Officer will be principally responsible for the development
and rollout of new coaching courses. These courses will be multiple
disciplines including new mountain bike leaders/instructors course.
The Coach Education Officer will also be responsible for monitoring
the work of existing coaches and ensure a clear coaching pathway is
in place for them. The Coach Education Officer will be required to
work within the Coaching Ireland Framework to ensure new courses are
certified by them.
Duties
will include:
Interaction with
Tutors to ensure coaching course are delivered as required;
Develop a Mountain
Bike Leader Course;
Devise schemes to increase the number of trained
leaders operating in mountain-bike clubs;
Develop a database
and records of coaching activity;
Devise schemes to
increase athlete interaction with coaches;
Development of
Coaching Pathway with routes into High Performance coaching;
Development and
recommendation of CPD for Tutors and Coaches;
Develop a
structured coaching reporting and monitoring system which can be
used to evaluate athlete progress;
Develop system to identify cyclists competency and when
they need to move to work with higher level coach,
(This
position may require some amount of weekend availability and time
away at training camps and major events)

Qualification
& Attainments
|
Hold
a recognised coaching qualification in cycling
|
Degree
or diploma in sports science.
At
least one year’s experience of coaching teams or squads.
|
Relevant
Experience
|
Demonstrable
experience of working for at least one year full-time or part-
time equivalent directly with athletes, using a
multi-disciplinary approach.
Competence
in budgeting and financial management.
Experience
of working with volunteers.
An
understanding of legislation relevant to sports organizations to
include child protection, health and safety, data protection,
equity etc.

Demonstrable
experience of applying and selling innovative and challenging
ideas, ideally in relation to education development in a work or
sporting environment.
|
Special
Aptitudes
|
Competent
in the use of information technology.
Excellent
literary and communication skills with the ability to produce
clear, concise reports.
Full
clean driving license.
Good
organisational skills.
Experience
of making presentations to a target audience.

Competent
in use of Microsoft XP or
above;
and in particular Word, Excel, and Power Point,
email and website.
Experience
of working under pressure and to strict deadlines.
First
Aid Certificate.

early January appointment.
The post will operate
from Cycling Ireland’s office at Kelly Roche House, Dublin 1,
though flexible work locations are negotiable. The post is offered as
a fixed-term contract. Salary is circa €30K dependent on
experience and qualifications. The on-going funding for this post is
subject to negotiation and to confirmation of funding from Cycling
