Irish multi Champion McCann take Haldane memorial race

Belfast cyclist David McCann (Phoenix CC ), was the man of steel in the wind swept John Haldane memorial race in the Mourne Mountains area around the Hilltown, Kilcoo and Rathfriland circuit. McCann winning time was 2 hours 35 minutes and 44 seconds. Second place went to inform cyclist Liam Curran (Curran Racing)and 3 rd place was taken by Martyn Irvine (Curran Racing) at further 15 seconds behind Curran, while Frazer Duncan (Curran Racing) was 4th some 30 seconds behind Irvine. New super veteran Barry Monaghan of the promoting club, Newry Wheelers took 5th place and 6th place went to seasoned campaigner Brendan “Bo” Graham (Castlereagh CC).
The “B ” Race:
This was a closely contested race over the same circuit as the Elite race. At the end of the race there was a five man sprint with Noel Boyce (North Down)the winner with Finbarr Cummins (Phoenix CC)in 2 nd place. Boyce winning time was 1 hour 35 minutes. David Quinn (Apollo CRT) was the next rider in 3 rd place, while Martin Gray (Cuchulainn CC) just got the better of former two time Ulster Veteran Road Race Champion,Kenny Boylan (Lakeland CC) for 4th place and the final 6th place went to Paul Wilkinson (West Down Wheelers), some 2 minutes down on the top five finishers.
