With the resurfacing now complete, the first track session of the 2009 season will take place in the Eamonn Ceannt Park this coming Saturday with the holding of a training session there. It will then be followed by a track open day seven days later.

On May 5th weekly racing will begin in Orangefield, Belfast, while the following evening will see the Cycleways Track League commence in the Eamonn Ceannt facilty.

Hugh Byrne of the CI Track Comission is very happy with the work done there. “The track is ultra smooth and should greatly improve the quality of this seasons racing,” he stated. “We just have to get the lines painted, but that should be done in time for the Track Open Day.”

The official opening will take place later this year with the holding of an international event.

Irish riders will also travel abroad to race; Selection events will be held on Saturday May 9th, with two being run per category. A list of male underage (U14 and U16), junior and under 23 riders will be drawn up, while the junior and under 23 women selection will take place at a later date. Due to budgetary constraints, the Track Commission has said that underage women will go on the following trip abroad, be it this season or next.
