Following on from his second place in the scratch event at the previous round of the series, David OLoughlin took another podium placing when he finished third in the points race at Saturdays 18th leg of the Revolution track meet in Manchester.

The Pezula rider scored well during the 20 kilometre contest, regarded as one of the main highlights of the evening. He went clear early on with former world champion Chris Newton (Recycling.co.uk) and 2006 Spanish national time trial champ Toni Tauler (Illes Balears), and the trio rode strongly together to gain a lap on the field.

During their bunch-catching effort, Newton won the sprint and moved jointly into the lead with OLoughlin. The Mayo rider then took a later gallop and edged ahead in the standings, but his rival picked up more points afterwards and then nabbed the penultimate sprint, making sure of his final victory.

OLoughlin and Tauler battled it out for second place; the Spaniard finished ahead of him in the final gallop, drawing level on points with the Irish road race champion. However he was awarded second overall due to his higher placing in this final sprint.

Pezula Racing team riders were also in action in other events. Former Irish national champion Morgan Fox was best of the team in the 20 laps motor-paced scratch race, placing 13th. Martyn Irvine was one place behind that, with Paul Healion and OLoughlin 23rd and 25th. Victory went to Franco Marvulli (Switzerland), who beat Ben Swift (100%ME) and Johnny Bellis (100%ME).

OLoughlin was 7th in the 10km scratch race. Swift came out best there, overcoming Bradley Wiggins (Cofidis) and Marvulli to land the win.

OLoughlin and other Irish riders are now continuing their buildup to their next big event. They will travel to China for the World Cup event in Beijing, taking place from December 7th to 9th, then later ride the rounds in Los Angeles [18-20 January] and Ballerup [15-17 February]. The track world championships in Manchester in March will end their campaign to secure places in the 2008 Olympic Games, by which time they hope to gain at least one slot.

The Pezula team will also be competing in road races, with the Tour de Langkawi one of the big international events the riders hope to take part in.
