New drug available for cheats in sport: (Jan 30) Aranesp, a medicine being misused as a performance-enhancing drug, is threatening to defeat sport in its fight against the use of illegal substances, an expert has claimed. Read the full story in the Irish Times >> Sun 17th Feb - Apollo Cycling Team Charity Reliability Trial: Apollo Cycling Team host the 2nd annual reliability trial on Sunday 17th Feb starting at 10am from Coalisland town centre. This popular event attracted widespread praise last year when organiser Eddie Polan gained valuable support from local police who escorted the large group through it's 70 mile loop, temporarilly closing road junctions in the process to allow the safe passage of riders. This event, which offers superb training as the beginning of the road race season fast approaches, is open to all riders, entry fee £5 including refreshments afterwards. It is a handicapped race and has proven to be very sussessful in the last 2 years. The defending champion of the Lacey Perpetual Cup is Paddy Moriarty (Dublin Skip). August - Junior Tour Based in Waterford: The 2002 Junior Tour will take place from 6th to 11th August inclusive. It will be based in The South East City of Waterford

Withers Jan 6) Fintona Cycling Club's 2002 got off with
a bang on Sunday, even though there was very cold and
windy conditions nearly 30 people took part in the
event, including cyclists from Lakeland Cycling Club,
Emyvale Cycling Club, the promoting club, and one from
Omagh Wheeler's. The event had been due to take place on
ST. Stephen's day but was postponed due to bad weather.
The competition sponsored by B9 Energy, was won by
Lakeland cyclist Kenny Boylan. The Under 16's was won by
last years Under 15 All Ireland Champion David Dunlop,
with Fintona's 2001 Ulster T.T. gold-medalist Richard
Jones in second. The Ladies competition had it's highest
entry in recent years and was won by Kelly-Ann Speight
(Lakeland C.C.-U14) with Kerry Youth Tour Under 14
Ladies winner Victoria McKechnie (Lakeland C.C.-U14)
finishing runner up. |
