David McCann Wins Irish Championships

CREDA ALL IRELAND CHAMPIONSHIP IN CORK: (Ciaran McKenna ICF PR) David McCann Phoenix CC was the winner of the National Road race Championships in Blackpool Cork today. McCann was part of a 12 man break that went clear on the first of five 20 mile laps. The break hovered around 1'30" for the next two laps with Professional Ciaran Power and last year winner Tommy Evans doing most of the chasing. The leading group stayed together until it hit the Mallow road at the end of the 3rd lap when Mark Scanlon split the group with McCann, Eugene Moriarty, Brian Kenneally, David O'Loughlin and Michael McNena forging ahead for the ultimate showdown with the possibility of an Olympic place for the winner.  McCann attacked up the climb the second last time, which got rid of McNena. They rode together until the start of the last lap when McCann attacked again just before the climb, Kenneally rode across to McCann on the climb and the quickly put 20" into the remaining 3 of Moriarty, Scanlon and O'Loughlin. With 2 miles to go and the gap up to 1min McCann jumped Kenneally which he had no answer for. It finished of a great week for McCann with a third in Mountain TT in Isle of Man and a second in the International road race on Friday.

Powers neck on the block? (By GERARD CROMWELL June 21) Picture the following scene. It's the winter of 2020, somewhere in rural Ireland. A man in his mid forties sits in front of a blazing fire. He suddenly rises from his armchair throne, turns to his three young children and announces "Right, that's enough telly for tonight, time to go to bed, you've school in the morning!"
