Adam Smith was fourth with Deignan just pipping Hanna for fifth place. Paul Smith one of the seven breakaway men came accross in seventh slot. It was the last lap that the gap started to come on after the lead went upto 75 seconds. Pantani's former doctor charged: (Apr 13) The former doctor for the Mercatone Uno cycling team, Roberto Rempi, has been formally indicted by magistrates probing doping in the sport, legal sources said today.  According to local prosecutors, the accusation against Dr Rempi is linked to laws governing the manipulation of results of sporting events.  Rempi was Mercatone's official doctor last year when Marco Pantani was thrown out of the Giro d'Italia (Tour of Italy) on the penultimate day when in the lead.

McQuaid Forced of the Bike: (Apr 12) Olympic Squad rider David McQuaid has been told by his doctor to stop racing for an indefinite period to locate and analyse a problem. At the moment it looks like a previously undetected wheat allergy combined with natural anaemic iron levels has been affecting his performance at high intensity levels for the past seasons.  It is only now that he has started to analyse what could be the problem and it looks like he may have found it.  Until he can be sure, he can't race or train properly as there is just no energy in the system at the moment as the allergy has peaked.  Until he gets this problem sorted, you may not see him racing.  But it's not so bad, as his focus is on the Nationals and the European and World U23 Championships, all of which are in the latter half of the year.

Mark Scanlon's rich vein of form continues (Apr.1) After his 4th place in in yesterday's opening stage of the Circuit Berrichon in France.  Scanlon goes into today's second stage 23 seconds behind overall leader Stephane Petilleau.  With the help of his strong CC Etupes team he will be trying to overhaul the Frenchman before the race ends on April 2nd. The 1998 junior world champion won the Tours des 4 Cantalons and the first stage of the Boules de l'Essonne race last month.
(Apr. 2) Mark Scanlon finished in the main bunch in the 160km stage to Ecueille.  Scanlon crossed the line in 28th place, and while he conceded just one second to winner Ludovic Martin, time bonuses for the top finishers means that he slips from fourth to sixth overall.  The 19-year-old remains 23 seconds behind race leader Stephane Petilleau with one stage remaining.
(Apr. 3) Mark Scanlon sprinted home in third place on the concluding leg of the two day race.  The 19-year-old finished nine seconds behind stage winner Marek  Lesniewski, who went on to win the race overall.  Scanlon was fourth in the final general classification, 24 seconds behind the Polish rider. The race marks another success for the former junior world champion, who won the Tour Quatre Cantalons and a stage of the Boucles de L'Essonnes last month.

Leinster Cycling Federation RR League - Corrections to the LCF League events listed in the ICF yearbook the correct list is posted here >>

The UCI Centenary preparations, which will occupy us throughout this year, will lead to the realisation of the various projects mentioned in this brochure. The cooperation and assistance of each member of the big cycling family is vital for the success of this programme, which will also include charity and promotional events. In addition to the combined effort and actions taken to celebrate the Centenary, we particularly want this anniversary to be marked by a spirit of enthusiasm, cooperation and openness. The 100 years of the UCI's history are not the end of a journey but rather herald a new golden era for cycling and the UCI with the creation of a World Cycling Centre, which is expected to open in 2001. This Centre will undoubtedly be the key to our future.  MORE >>
