Leinster Cycling Federation RR League Round 1 Batterstown: There was over a 100 starters and everybody had to walk and cycle through disinfectant mats before and after the start. It was a damp misty day and the 1st group of vets and juniors had 6 mins on the next group. This group was supposed to be 2nd cats only but the race were short on bodies and the 1st cats went with them. It will not be the same next week. The race was 50 miles long, with three 15 mile circuts of the Drumree/Dorreys Forge/Mullagh circuit. In the first group, Jim Cassidy, Garda Motor World and Sean Bracken Usher I.R.C. , left the group after 2 miles and kept going until they were caught on the 3rd assent of Dorreys Forge by Shane Baker, Usher I.R.C and Andrew Donnellon, Dublin Wheelers. Bracken hung onto these two. In pursuit at 15 seconds were Morgan Fox and Vincent Gleeson, West Clare C.C. This pair caught up just after Mullagh and with 5 miles to go , they attacked and left the other three. It was 7 laps of a 6.5 mile circuit. The rain eased off for the start and it turned out to be dry and sunny. The laps had a drag in it after Annamoe and the circuit all round was very testing and dead. The vets and juniors had 4 mins on the B bunch and the A,s were another 2 behind. The A,s caught the B bunch on the start of the 4th lap but the vets and juniors were riding well and had a gap of about 2 mins.On the 6th lap Sean Bracken fell off on a dodgey corner and the group lost some ground. On the last lap a leading group of 8 riders were away and at the bell the gap was 20 secs behind. They caught up on the drag out of Annamoe and just after that Kieron Mc Mahon and Karl Donnelly broke away. They were clear by 10 secs at the finish and Mc Mahon won easily. The rest were taken in by the new league leader Shane Baker with Tim Cassidy winning the sprint from Brian Lennon. 1st Ciaran Mc Mahon unnattached 1 hr 50 mins 20 secs 45mile 2nd Karl Donnelly Usher I.R.C. The A Group rode better and had the B's in sight. With 10 mile to go the 1st group still had 2.30mins.In Batterstown Stephen Enright attacked and held on to the finish just before Black Bull. With a half to go James Lattimore clipped off for 2nd with Tosh Lavery winning the sprint for third.Sean Bracken won the league overall from Enright and Lattimore. The league had been designed to promote B racing but not one B scored a point. The other races were not handicapped properly however and this did not help matters .So its back to the drawing board for next year.Any ideas would be welcome send them to sbracken@eircom.net Sean Bracken League Co-ordinator Leinster Cycling Federation. 1st Stephen Enright Usher I.R.C. 1Hr 48 MINS 30SEC 2nd James Lattimore Usher I.R.C. @20sec 3RD Tosh Lavery Garda @25sec 4th Sean Bracken Usher I.R.C. s.t. 5th Seamus Kennedy Navan cc s.t 6th Terry Ferris Dublin Whls s.t. 7th Hughie Davis Eagle cc s.t. 8th Sean Lally Mc Nallys s.t.
