‘Midleton Cycling & Tri Club’ along with ‘Stephen Roche’ are presenting the 2nd ‘Stephen Roche Tour de Cure’ in association with MyHome.ie, on Saturday, 8th May 2010 based out of Midleton County Cork. Stephen Roche once again is delighted to be lending his name and participating in such an cycling sportif/event raising money for great causes whilst also getting bums on seats and introducing cycling to those who may not do this often.

The courses on offer have been individually selected and loop through the beautiful East Cork, Waterford and Tipperary Counties. Participants will have a choice of 4 circuits, the 50km ‘Novice’ Route, the 100km ‘Challenger’, the 160km ‘Expert’ and an addition to this year, a 15km Family Run.

The entry fee is 40 euro per rider but this includes a great Event Cycling Jersey, Feed Zone Route Refueling and Post-Ride Festivities along with other items that will be provided on the day. Riders can raise additional money via our sponsorship cards which will be sent out on receipt of entries or downloadable from the site, www.stephenrochetourdecure.com.

Online Entry is open. Our target is 1000 plus cyclists and we hope to raise 50,000euro for the superb Cork based Charities nominated for 2010.

An Event Gala Dinner will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel on the Friday Night before, May 7th where Stephen and other sporting guests will attend.

“The Mercy University Hospital Foundation is delighted to have been chosen as one of the charities to benefit from the 2010 Stephen Roche Tour de Cure. The funds raised through this event will be used by our organisation to support the significant re-development of our CT Scanning and Interventional Radiology facilities in the Mercy University Hospital. It is fantastic to see Stephen, a true legend in Irish Sport involved.” Michael Sheridan, Mercy University Hospital Foundation.

“COPE Foundation are delighted to benefit from the Tour De Cure event in 2010 with all monies raised going towards a new development in Mayfield which will incorporate beds and a day centre which provide respite for children with various degrees of intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder” John Clifford, COPE Foundation.

“Anaphylaxis Campaign are delighted to be associated with the Tour De Cure in 2010 with all Monies raised being used to fund their campaign in getting the information out to schools and to the national media about this life threatening allergy that many may not know they have to be aware of. In addition, they wish to campaign to the products manufacturers for better labelling on the packages.” Mary Hinchion, Anaphylaxis Ireland.

The Tour de Cure signifies a 'Ride for Hope". This event has been kindly sponsored by a number of companies which are referenced below and on the event website.

About the Charities:

The ’Mercy University Hospital’, Cork specializes in the management of Prostate Cancer and Urological Cancers. Through the establishment of 'The Men's Health and Prostate Cancer Fund' they are committed to raising over €100,000 annually. These funds are then used to provide 100% of the finances required to provide this clinic. The Tour De Cure worked with the foundation in 2009 successfully.

The ‘COPE Foundation’ provides a comprehensive range of services for 1600 children and adults with an intellectual disability through its system of early intervention, schooling, training, adult day services, supported employment, housing, information and advice, at over 60 locations throughout Cork City and County. The Foundation is determined to ensure that further progress is made during the years ahead to meet the unmet and changing needs of persons with intellectual disability in their care, and that all clients receive the level of support and service to which they are entitled.

The ‘Anaphylaxis Campaign’ fights for those with potential life threatening food allergies. Anaphylaxis is the medical term given to a severe allergic reaction which affects the whole body. In its most extreme form, this reaction results in a person going into "anaphylactic shock" which can be fatal. There is a growing list of everyday items which can give rise to anaphylactic shock for some people, including food, insect stings and drugs.
