Cycling Ireland Community Bike Rides have Partnered with Age & Opportunity ahead of 2023 European Week of Sport, taking place from September 23rd to 30th.

A series of social rides have been launched aimed towards people over the age of 50 years old, with riders encouraged to experience the fun of cycling in a group along some of Ireland's greenways and high quality cycling infrastructure with an experienced ride leader.

Community Bike Rides are delighted to partner with Age & Opportunity for the campaign, Age & Opportunity is the leading national development organisation working to enable the best possible quality of life for all as we age.

With over 5,000 members, Community Bike Rides provides an important resource for new and returning cyclists in Ireland as a community that offers free social leisure rides for adults of all ages.

Community Bike Rides are run by a network of over 120 Ride Leaders across 29 counties on the island of Ireland, with over 100 candidates currently committed to completing Ride Leader training.

Darragh Whelan, Interim Community Bike Rides Development Officer, said:

"Community Bike Rides are delighted to be hosting a variety of group cycles taking place on Greenways/Blueways across the country during the European Week of Sport. These social group rides are aimed at adults aged 50+ and we are delighted to promote these in partnership with Age and Opportunity."

Nicole Evans, Age & Opportunity Active Programme Assistant Manager, said:

"Age & Opportunity is delighted to be partnering with Cycling Ireland's Community Bike Rides initiative for the European Week of Sport 2023. At Age and Opportunity we are all about enabling a better quality of life for us all as we age, so these Bike Rides fit right in."

"They are created especially for older adults and we welcome anyone over the age of 50 who wants to experience all the fun cycling with a group can bring. These events will take place on a mixture of scenic greenways and blueways around Ireland with the support of a local, experienced ride leader. The emphasis is on social cycling so all abilities are welcome!"
