Ireland’s rugby heroes get on their bikes for Cancer

Recently rugby legends and brothers Paul, Richard and David Wallace along with Mairead Farrell got on their bikes to launch The Wallace Brothers C.R.O.S.S. Rugby Legends Cycle at Trinity College Dublin.
Ireland's most famous rugby family, Richard, Paul and David Wallace, along with many Irish and International Rugby legends will cycle c. 700Kms from Mizen to Malin Head in September in aid of C.R.O.S.S. The Wallace’s, alongside rugby legends such as Mick Galwey, Shane Horgan, Jerry Flannery, Paddy Johns, Denis McBride, Alan Quinlan, Hugo MacNeill, Shane Byrne, Conor McGuinness, Ieuan Evans, Colin Charvis, Dewi Morris and Dean Ryan are asking the public to join them on the C.R.O.S.S Rugby Legends cycle.
The charity cycle will commence on September 1st 2012. The cycle will cater for everyone from the experienced cyclist to the more casual cyclist and for those who want to combine this significant challenge with a bit of fun alongside their rugby heroes. There will be five teams, comprising Rugby Legends from Munster, Leinster, Ulster, Connaught and an International Rugby Team who are lending their support to support this cause. The cycle will run over seven days and there will be teams and individuals participating in each leg of the trip, along with teams and individuals who will join for single leg activity only. The charity fundraiser is the brainchild of Paul Wallace, a member of this exceptional Irish sporting family. The Wallace brothers have made the Guinness Book of Records as the only three members of one family to play for the British & Irish Lions - a unique achievement in international sport. David's recent retirement marked the end of an era for the 3 brothers, who had back to back International careers spanning over 20 years.
C.R.O.S.S supports cancer research at St James's Hospital and Trinity College Dublin headed by Professor John Reynolds. C.R.O.S.S. www.crosscharity.ie a charity, established in 2008, that supports cancer research performed in the Trinity College Institute of Molecular Medicine, located at St. James’s Hospital. The Research Programme relates to prevention and treatment of cancers of the oesophagus, stomach, lung, bowel, and breast. The charity supports the development of young cancer research scientists and also invests in laboratory equipment to drive translational research projects aimed at the prevention, understanding and treatment of various forms of cancer.

The cycle will be even tougher for us as myself, Richard, David and many of the rugby lads are struggling with career ending injuries, which will no doubt add to the challenge”
