DROMARA CC - TRAILQUEST WINTER LEAGUE
By Trevor Annett

Dromara Cycling Club are pleased to announce a five round winter league of our popular trailquests.

All proceeds in aid of, The Northern Ireland Children's Cancer Home, Shimana Valley, Bryansford Road, Newcastle.

Last Sunday Round 1 was held in Dromara with 88 cyclists in 39 teams taking part. So far 12 teams have pre-entered for Round 2 this Sunday in Ballyward.

What is trailquest?

In simple terms trailquest is off road orienteering by bicycle. Approximately 26 control sites of varying point values (eg 10, 20 or 30 points) are positioned around a course which includes road, forestry trails and bridleways. Competitors are given detailed maps at the start of the event showing where these sites are located and the time limit set to complete the event. Competitors need to work out the best route that will earn them maximum points but allow them to return within that specified time. Arriving after the time limit will incur severe penalties (in terms of points). The team who have the most points will win the event.

Each event will have the same total number of points available with the league winners being those with the highest points overall for their team (Prizes will be available) There will be separate league categories for teams with under age members etc.

Each trail quest will have more points than you will have time to visit so you need to chose the best route.
Standard trailquest rules will apply (see the bottom of this page) Teams have a time limit of 3½ hours

Maximum of 3 persons per team.

Maps supplied will be of good quality and you will not need a compass. Sign on from 9:45 am with first start at 10:30 am. Helmets are essential.
