Sean Kelly, one of Ireland's greatest cycling heroes, will take to his bike once again this weekend in a leisure cycle helping to raise funds for Best Buddies Ireland, a charity that promotes friendships for children with Intellectual Disability.

The Best Buddies Challenge Ireland is taking place on Sunday June 18th at the Phoenix Park. The spin offers both a 90 mile and a 25 mile route and is leaving from the visitor's centre at 09:00 sharp.

Sean Kelly will lead out the group on a leisurely spin that goes through Co. Meath to Athboy before turning around and finishing up back at the Phoenix Park through Summerhill.

Best Buddies was founded by Anthony Kennedy-Shriver, nephew of President JFK. Leisure cycles are the main source of fundraising for the charity and normally bring in, in the region of 2million US dollars per ride. This is the first time he has brought the event outside of the USA and he hopes to see it grow to a similar level here in Ireland.

Anthony's mother Eunice Shriver, founder of the Special Olympics will also be attended the spin. She will take part in the celebrity criterium scheduled for the same morning.

Sean Kelly, who was involved with the Special Olympics and enjoyed it so much he has come back for more, said: "This is a great event and all monies raised go to a very worthwhile cause. The more riders we have the better and every penny of their entry will go towards helping these children."

After the spin, riders are invited to a reception taking place at the Royal Hospital and hosted by An Toaiseach Mr. Bertie Ahearn. To book your place on the ride and get the opportunity to cycle alongside Sean Kelly one of Ireland's sporting greats, please contact the Cycling Ireland office on (01) 855 1522 or email events@cyclingireland.ie
