A SEPARATE 'C' RACE - WHERE ARE THE 'C's?

Letters added: 12th June

I have to agree with the previous e-mail that the Kilpedder Open was well marshalled and well run but it was shame that only 20 ish C riders turned up but as the previous letter said that the Wicklow 200 on the next day played a vital part of taking away a number of riders, but that shouldn’t stop Bray Wheelers from organising another good race for next year.

Firstly I would like to thank you and your club for putting on a race which sounds ideal. All to often as a C rider you turn up find a separate race has morphed into a 123,W V & junior handicap which instead of 50k is now 100k. There’s one race where this has happened each of the past 4 years. During these I inevitably pack meet my equally packed friends for a pint and watch the rest pack.

I can only explain the poor turnout in the context of the W200 being on the next day. I think this will invariably lead to a poor turnout.

But please keep on trying and even try to get o a few more on before the seasons out (I will do the same at my club).

Bottom line 25 happy racers, a start made and an event on the calendar and possibly a template for the rest of us to use.

We should in my opinion promote stand alone C races in conjunction with underage and women’s maybe not every week but possibly twice a month.??????

If the is a series there it will attract people. Possibly we could run one of our league races as an open one for C’s and vets and underage once a year, with 4-5 leagues in Dublin that’s a good start. There are allot of guys and some girls on the fringes on the present set up and something along these lines coupled with the women’s league could grow and grow.

Who’s the one to organise it though. Anyone ready to step up to the mark.??

Original Post: 11th June

I seem to remember earlier in the season several letters bemoaning the fact that there were no separate races for category 'C' riders, yesterday (June 10) Bray wheelers organized such a race which was very well run with excellent marshaling and on a good circuit. However there were only 25 riders who turned up to sign on ! lets hope we can give events like this better support in the future.
