Letters added: 17th July
Your letters section has a piece today about the lack of races for third category riders. My club Clann Eireann/the Linen Green has promoted the Tour of Armagh for 45 years... but the August date has not been helpful as regards numbers of competitors, and for the last two years, a couple of other good races not far away. There are simply not enough first/second category riders around at that time of the year.
This year, we have a sponsor.. the Classic Mineral Water Company, and a prize list of around 1000 euros, a substantial part of which is being reserved for the lower categories, including 3rds. Also, the distance is being shortened to around 65 miles, in an effort to attract a worthwhile entry.
So look around you third cats, and maybe if you are prepared to travel up to Craigavon, you may get as an enjoyable and safe a "big tour" as you are likely to get anywhere. The date is 13 August.
Maurice Bann-Lavery.

Just quick note in relation to S3 races. There were many mails etc pointing to lack of races etc for ourselves as S3, I myself had also pointed this out. Yesterdays race was in Portlaoise was very demanding and enjoyable race with help of good weather also. Also there was large turnout of riders my guess 50 to 70 riders. But I have checked the rest of season races and there seem to be none for rest season with today only 17th July for S3 alone. So its back to hang in there and not really knowing true results in these combined events for rest of year.
I know myself last year there were races right till end of season.
But now for S3 its another 8 months till next S3,v,w race, which I for one feel its a long time to wait.
Philip Morrissey.
