The Bray Wheelers line up for the start at the GAA club
As the race (for A4 riders only) starts - a Bray Wheelers goes off on his own
After a chase of about 8kms the lone leader is being reeled in
Looks like Team Orwell is doing the work
The race is together as they complete the first lap of five 12kms laps.
On lap 2
A few riders off the front on lap 3
One of the many drags on the course later on lap 3
Two riders are clear on lap 4
The leaders have only 15 seconds and the bunch will chase hard on the straights
Later on lap 4 - they are going to be caught
The bunch is all together on the last lap with 10kms to go
200m - It's going to be a bunch finish
With only 25m to go some riders fall in the sprint to the line
Junior rider David Fitzsimons (Murphy Surveyors) wins
Randall Burke (Usher IRC) crashed heavily in the sprint to the finish and suffered serious injuries to his face which required the attention of the Ambulance personnel and another cyclist who was in the race and happened to be a paramedic. Order of Malta Ambulance personnel treated Burke on the road for some time and he required the use of a defibrillator. He was taken to Loughlinstown Hospital where he was kept overnight for observation. - Having been at the finish myself it was a bad fall, nobody likes to see that happen. Thankfully everyone will be OK other than cuts and bruises - We wish Randall and the others that fell a speedy recovery.
