Here's a collection of pictures from the first race of the season in 1979, the "Jack Woodcock Memorial" organised by the Eagle CRC in the Phoenix Park, Dublin. This race was an important race for any riders with international aspirations as the race was watched by the Irish team selectors. One rider said to me at the time, "win the Woodcock and see the world".

My apologies as these pictures are a bit mixed, please don't contact me looking for pictures, I will post more pictures here when I get some spare time. Even converting the pictures on this page took a fair amount of time.

Please enjoy the pictures that are already posted on the site.

THE JUNIOR EVENT

Start of the Junior event

Winner of the Junior event, his first name escapes me, but it was Joe McAlloon's son from Drogheda

Each year at the start of the race a bouquet of flowers was presented to Mrs. Woodcock (Jack's wife)

Riders line up for the start which is at the Ashtown Gate this year

Martin Earley in one of his first senior races, 10 years later he would win a stage in the Tour de France

Very fast racing in the Phoenix Park

This would become the winning breakaway, many of the main contenders are in this move

The leading break

In the final sprint it was Ollie McQuaid winning ahead of Alan McCormack
