Irish enduro rider Greg Callaghan has won the Enduro World Series round in Madeira. - 2 weeks out from the Enduro World Series round in Ireland, Irish rider Greg Callaghan has won the 3rd round on the Portuguese island of Madeira. The win gives the Dublin native the series lead, guaranteeing him the number one seeding for the Irish race.

Madeira served up an epic two days of racing over some 95km of trails with 9 rally style special stages. Callaghan took the race lead after stage 7 and held off Belgian Martin Maes to win by 5 seconds with Italian Damian Oton in third another 14 seconds back. Greg Callaghan has twice won an Enduro World Series race in Ireland and narrowly missed out at the second round in Tasmania a few weeks ago where he finished in 2nd.

Greg’s cousin Killian Callaghan took 4th in Madeira in the Under 21 category, moving him into 2nd overall ahead of the Irish race on the 28th of May in Carrick, Co. Wicklow.

This is the third year that the global series has visited Ireland and is testament to the large crowds of enthusiastic supporters who line the stages roaring on the riders. 2016 marked a turning point for Irish Enduro racing with 4 of the 5 categories won by Irish riders, an unheralded achievement, crowned by hometown hero Greg Callaghan who repeated his 2015 win in front of an ecstatic crowd.

The 2017 Enduro World Series features eight rounds taking the riders to New Zealand, Tasmania, Madeira, Ireland, France, USA, Canada and the final round in Italy.
