The small village of Rathangan in county Kildare, on the Grand canal hosted an evening cycle race around the town. These races on a short circuit usually lasted around an hour. Ann Kinsella organised it and the locals came out to watch the spectacle.
While several attempts were made to break away during the race, in the last few laps two riders stayed clear and finished ahead of the main pack.
They were a St. Tiernan's rider and Ger Madden of the Obelisk Wheelers, it was a very close finish and I can't work out who got it.
