Here is some video of an early season race in the home of Sean Kelly back in 1982. Carrick-on-Suir was a hub of Irish cycling, when races were held the town shut down with great support from the locals.

This event was a classic race which started in the town then went out and did three laps of a big circuit and then came back into the town to do 10 laps of a very short circuit around the town using the two bridges.

The race could get complicated to watch as when the riders returned to the town even after the race breaking up into several groups on the big circuit, they were all let onto the finishing circuit among others who may have been ahead of them.

While the junior race was straight forward, the senior race looked a bit mixed up. I think Tony Ryan (Carrick Wheelers RC) came into the town and was a lap up and won the race, I'm not sure after that.

Some of the riders in this race were;-

Martin Earley, Paul Kimmage, Philip Cassidy, Donal Crowley, Tony Ryan, Larry Power, Paddy Power, Anthony O'Gorman, Aidan Harrison, Raphael Kimmage, Conor Kelly, Leonard Healy, Mick McLynskey, John McGinley, PJ Nolan, Lloyd Scott, Seamus Kennedy - if you know of more names or results please add them to the YouTube comments section.
