Emer Heverin Takes European Championship Title
Having taken silver in the Junior Omnium yesterday, first-year-junior Emer Heverin has taken her first ever European Championship title.Heverin put in a calm and controlled performance throughout the race and leaving it to the last sprint to dig deep for her biggest effort, taking full points on the final lap.
The Belfast native is riding in her first ever European Championship event and will bring home a gold and silver medal at the first time of asking. This success comes not long after she took both the Junior Road Race and TT national championships in Co. Mayo, and two months after she outsprinted Olympians and World Champion competition on Dublin streets to take the Senior Criterium National Championship.
This marks Ireland's second European Championship title in two days, off the back of Seth Dunwoody taking the win in the U23 Points event last night.

Heverin Adds European Medal to 2026 Tally
10 July 2026Emer Heverin has added another medal to an already stellar first year at the junior level as she takes third in the Junior Omnium event at the Junior/U23 European Track Championships in Cottbus, Germany.
The recent Junior Road Race and TT champion opened the day with a fourth place in the Scratch race. Heverin won two sprints in the Tempo Race not long after, giving her a second-place finish in that event and sitting in second overall heading into the second session of the day.
Heverin took fifth place in the Elimination race, before a calm and confident performance in the Points event to round out the day, solidifying a silvermedal.
Heverin has had a stunning start to her career as a junior, with the Cycling Ireland High Performance Pathway rider not only taking convincing wins in the Junior TT and Road Race in Mayo but also outsprinted Olympian and World Champion competition to take the Women’s Criterium National Championships in Dublin’s Docklands in May.
Seth Dunwoody Takes European Championship in Track Return
Seth Dunwoody has made a stunning return to track racing this week. After finishing in fifth in the U23 Individual Pursuit on Tuesday, Dunwoody has this evening won the U23 Points Race in Cottbus, Germany.
The Points event came down to a straight shoot-out between Dunwoody and German rider Tobias Muller, with the pair going tit-for-tat in back to back sprints. Dunwoody's road experience saw him come into his own in the middle and later stages of the race, with the Bahrain-Victorious rider growing into the race.
This European Championship comes off the back of Dunwoody taking the Elite Road Race National Championship at just 20 years old.
