Five riders will represent Ireland at the upcoming UCI Track World Championships in Shanghai China, with racing taking place from Wednesday, October 14th to Sunday October 18th.
Reigning World Champion Lara Gillespie will look to add more rainbow stripes to her collection. Having taken a bronze medal at Worlds in 2024 and gold at both European and World Championship in 2025, 2026 will see Gillespie race the Scratch, Omnium and Points races. Gillespie has also had a good run into this Champs, taking silver in the Omnium at the prestigious 3 Days of Aigle track event in Switzerland last week.
After having her 2025 dented by injury, Aoife O’Brien has had continued to grow throughout 2026. O’Brien placed herself on podiums in road races across Europe in recent months and took a stage win at Rás na mBan with the national team. O’Brien’s focus for this World Championships will be on the Elimination race.
Emma Jeffers will take on the Kilo TT having made her national team track debut last year, riding both European and World Championships. Jeffers has had a strong season on the road, taking podiums with the national team at Rás na mBan and regularly featuring in one-day and stage races with trade team Liv AlUla Jayco.
Fiona Mangan returns to track action having made her Worlds debut last year in Chile. In a 2026 that saw Mangan ride her second Tour de France Femmes she has consistently been in the mix in one day races across the year and will be looking to build on last year’s Track World’s experience as she takes on the Individual Pursuit.
Alongside the Individual Pursuit, Mangan will feature once again in the four-rider Team Pursuit. She will be joined by Emma Jeffers, Aoife O’Brien, and Esther Wong – who took silver in the Individual Pursuit at the recent Aigle 3-Day event.
