Here's the final sprint of the points race, Javan Nulty just pips Cian Keogh. This could be a 'Pub Quiz' question, when can a rider finish first in a race but not win the race ?
Cycling Ireland Report
A windy but sun drenched Sundrive Velodrome played host to the Senior Track National Championships on Saturday and Sunday August 24th and 25th.
Annalise Murphy added a win in the Women’s 3k Pursuit to her 2024 medal haul. The National Road Series champion and Longcourt Hotel - NCW Wheelers rider finished ahead of clubmate Ellen Nà Cleirigh and UCD’s Jennifer Neenan in second and third respectively on Saturday.
A Team Skyline one-two in the Men’s 4k Pursuit saw Conn McDunphy edge out Cian Keogh, followed by Sean Landers from UCD.
There was another win for Longcourt Hotel – NCW Wheelers when Deirbhle Ivory finally took her first individual Senior National Title in the Women’s Sprint. Sundrive’s own Caoimhe Seymour took second place, with Aimee Dickson of Palmer Park Velo RT rounding out the podium.
Harvey Barnes of East Tyrone took the win in the Men’s Sprint to finish off Saturday’s racing. He was joined on the podium by Alexander Abdul-Wahab from Spellman Dublin Port in second place and Dmitro Griffin from Orwell Wheelers in third.
Conditions became more difficult on Sunday as the winds picked up, but Cian Keogh and Conn McDunphy continued their strong form on from Saturday, as the Team Skyline pair took first and second place respectively in the Men’s Scratch race, giving Keogh his first individual National Title. Conor Murnane from UCD filled the final podium place.
Deirbhle Ivory doubled her weekend haul when she took the title in the Women’s Keirin race. She finished ahead of Palmer Park Velo RT rider Aimee Dickson in second and Sundrive’s Caoimhe Seymour in third.
In the Men’s Keirin, Harvey Barnes took the title to add to Saturday’s Sprint win. Orwell’s Dmitro Griffin took second place with Luke Bernie from Navan Road Club taking third.
Longcourt Hotel – NCW Wheelers again took first and second in the Women’s Points race, as Ellen Nà Cleirigh and Jennifer Bates finished ahead of UCD’s Jennifer Neenan in third.
The Men’s Points race saw Stefan Caulfield-Dreier from Giant Store Assen take the top spot. Team Skyline riders Cian Keogh and Conn McDunphy again finished on the podium, as they took second and third respectively.
A massive congratulations to all who took part across the weekend, and thank you to the organisers for putting on a fantastic weekend’s racing.
The Senior Track Championships was organised by the Cycling Ireland Track Commission.
