Cycling Ireland President Ciaran Cannon opened the AGM by offering his thanks for the support and efforts of the volunteers, partners and event organisers that are the life blood of this organisation.
The focus of the AGM including reflecting on the outstanding success on the international stage in 2025 with multiple medal winning performances at World and European Championship level across multiple disciplines and the beginning of construction of the National Indoor Velodrome on the Sport Ireland Campus.
On an organisational level the implementation of a new finance system, governance improvements, internal department restructuring and staff expansion were all discussed.

Looking into 2026, Cycling Ireland will continue to strengthen and develop pathways for all disciplines. There will be continued work with stakeholders to improve the stability of national road racing, while also working on promoting Ireland as a host venue for world class events.
2026 will also bring more supports for clubs, provinces and commissions, with new funding streams available for youth and women’s cycling.
Cycling Ireland High Performance Director Iain Dyer provided an update from the High Performance Unit (HPU).
William Byrne presented the Director’s Report and Chief Financial Officer Tom Rushe gave the Financial Overview.
Elections:
Carol Ann Heavey was ratified as an Appointed Director.
William Byrne was re-elected as Treasurer.
Valerie Considine was elected as Federation Secretary.
Tommy McCague was elected to the board. A massive thank you must be extended to the outgoing Catherine Mahoney for her efforts in the last three years.
Speaking after the AGM, Cycling Ireland President Ciaran Cannon said: "2025 has been a hugely important year for Cycling Ireland, marked by stronger governance, greater financial stability, record investment across the sport and continued progress both on and off the bike. While elite success continues to inspire the nation, that success is built on the solid foundation of our club structure. Every club volunteer, every parent, every coach, they all contribute to the future of our sport, and Cycling Ireland remains fully committed to supporting grassroots participation, stronger youth pathways, safer roads and a more inclusive and welcoming cycling community. With major investment now being made in cycling infrastructure and facilities, and with growing momentum across all disciplines of the sport, I genuinely believe we are entering a transformative new chapter for cycling on this island.”
The president closed the AGM by reiterating his thanks to the volunteers and members for their support and efforts throughout the year, and for the members joining the AGM in person and online.
