Showing excellent form before Thursday’s world championship time trial, David McCann yesterday broke Chris Boardman’s long-standing British 25 mile time trial record.
Phoenix CC rider McCann was competing in the Port Talbot wheelers 25 mile time trial in South Wales, and averaged over 33 miles per hour to clock a time of 45 minutes and 54 seconds. This was three seconds quicker than Boardman’s 16 year record, and beat second-placed Michael Hutchinson (In-Gear Quickvit RT) by thirteen seconds.
Danny Axford (Artic-Premier RT) was third, two minutes and 50 seconds back.
Boardman was one of the best time triallists in cycling’s recent history, winning three prologues in the Tour de France, one time trial world championship, an Olympic gold medal for the pursuit and also breaking the world hour record on several occasions.
Multiple Irish champion McCann’s storming ride means he will be particularly psyched for the world championship TT in Mendrisio, Switzerland, later this week.
