The Phoenix Park was an epicentre for Dublin based cycle racing for years, with races on Weekends, Tuesday evenings as well as finishes of the Rás Tailteann and Tour of Ireland. In 1998 it hosted the finish of a stage of the Tour de France.

As well as Road racing, the park hosted Cyclo-cross, Mountain bike races and cycle polo. Sadly these are all history now. Fortunately, the park was an excellent venue for photographers and videographers to capture the events and I have posted online some of the events I managed to get. Here's a couple of samples.

Weekend Racing

The Jack Woodcock Memorial was one of the premier cycling events in Ireland for many years. The event was run in the Phoenix Park on the first Sunday in March and organised by the Eagle Cycle Racing Club.

The Tuesday Evening Park Gallops

The park was a regular venue for Tuesday evening's mid-week cycle races in the past. Here is a race from April 1994 which started and finished at the 'Hole in the wall gate' on the back road and used the 2 mile circuit.

The races were usually handicapped and riders of mixed categories were put in groups based on their ability with the fastest riders starting in the last group.
