NICF Hillclimb Championships

The switchback climb on the Ballymenoch road, Holywood, Co. Down overlooking Belfast Lough hosted this years NICF Hillclimb championship. The event was promoted by Toyota North Down and attracted 36 riders on a rather cool windy night.

As usual with hillclimbs, the young guns with lower bone density and high heart rates stole the show. Peter Hawkins, formerly from the Castlereagh Club, now with Usher took the Gold closely followed by Adam Armstrong (Northern), Mountain biker Tim Edgar (XMTB), Glenn Kinning (Castlereagh) and Fraser Duncan (Northern).

Peter Wilson, Maryland won the U16, first Junior was Graham Boyb,XMTB. Declan Mackin and Brian Marshall both Toyota tied for the Vets and Gary Wilson's son Jack won the U14 prize. Ryan Orr, Old Bleachwon the U12. Jessica Laird, XMTB held off Racheal Mitchell, Toyota to lift the U12 girls prize.

Northern teamates Trudy Brown and Kathryn Bell finished 1st and 2nd a few days after Trudy who like many of our female cyclists mix also race Triathlons, won another Irish Triathlon Championship beating Orwell Wheelers girl, Karen Bothwell at Camlough, Newry where Kathryn finishing 6th.
