The 2012 Tour of Ulster cycle race looks set to be one of the toughest in recent years with a high quality field due to line up for the Stage 1 start in Dungannon.
This year’s edition of the UCPC promoted event will be hosted in the Mid Ulster area from the 5th-7th May. One hundred of the top road men in Ireland & the UK will take to challenging Ulster roads to compete for the Graham-McLaughlin memorial trophy. Among the line up are top domestic & UK based riders & teams including Monaghan native Ryan Sherlock, All Ireland Veteran Time Trial Champion Greg Swinard, and Eurocycles’ 2010 Champion Adam Armstrong.
Over the weekend the riders will tackle three road stages and an individual time trial racing over 250 miles, mainly around the roads of Fermanagh and South Tyrone. The Tour of Ulster is a key event on the cycle racing calendar, particularly for riders aiming to compete in the An Post Ras just a few weeks later.
The Malcolm Elliot managed Norde Giordano Pro Cycling Team will compete this year, this strong squad will undoubtedly represent a real challenge to the home-based teams hoping to keep the title in the province.
