The 2026 Shay Elliott Memorial is one of the most prized single day events to win on the Irish calendar. It is a real classic, this year it was won for the second time by Conn McDunphy (APS Pro Cycling). McDunphy jumped clear of a breakaway group with a lap to go and came home to win on his own, Jack Conroy (Velo Performance) won the group sprint of the rest of the breakaway group to take second place with, in form Liam Crowley (Orwell Wheelers) taking third.
This year the race had a course change in the days before the start, road works were in progress on the way to the original finish at the Shay Elliott monument, the organisers had to relocate the race to a circuit close to the village of Rathdrum instead.
The race was previously known as the 'Route de Chill Mhantain' (Wicklow Route), became the Shay Elliott Trophy in the late sixties, then the Shay Elliott Memorial after his death in 1971. The race is the most prestigious Irish one-day event after the national championships.
There is also a race for C2 & C3 riders, the Ken Duff Memorial, in the race a four man breakaway went clear and young Bob Maye (Clonard RC) took the honours ahead of James Davenport (Velo Revolution) and Saran Greene (U/A Leinster)
