Again he went away in todays early breakaway group of around 30 riders, he was lucky to have started with 3 team mates with him, It looked as if he was going for another stage win but when the gap opened to the GC leaders group, Healy went into the virtual race lead and at one stage had over 2 minutes virtual lead on the race leader Tadej Pogacar. Healy did a tremendous amount of work in the leading group on a stage that was one of the most mountainous of the tour, with 4,500 metres of climbing.
In a close pursuit to the mountain finish, Healy finished third on the stage and took the race lead by 29 seconds ahead of Tadej Pogacar.
