Stage 2 of the Dornan Rás Mumhan delivered everything it promised — relentless climbs, spectacular views, and fierce racing from start to finish.
The day began with a 9km neutralised roll-out from St. Oliver’s School to Fossa before the flag dropped just beyond the Gap Road. The peloton immediately faced tough terrain, climbing over the Bord of Works and heading toward Glencuttane Cross. From there, the route wound its way into South Kerry, taking in the long, leg-sapping ascent of Ballaghisheen Pass.
With the bunch already stretched, the pace stayed high as the riders pushed through Waterville and on toward Ballinskelligs. The climb over the Coom tested legs further, offering dramatic views at the summit before the fast descent into The Glen and St. Finian’s Bay.
The next big challenge came in the form of the Cools climb, where the peloton continued to fragment. After passing through Portmagee for the first time, riders took on the hardest climb of the day — the infamous Coomanaspic. With gradients biting hard and the field scattered, the descent was equally selective, demanding both focus and finesse. Returning through St. Finian’s Bay, the riders faced the Cools climb one final time before sweeping into Portmagee for a second time and a fast run-in to the finish outside the GAA grounds.

In a tightly contested sprint to the line, Casper RODE (WEST-FRISIA) edged out Daire FEELEY (BURREN CYCLING CLUB) to take the stage win, with Jamie WHITCHER (COMPOSITE BLACK) close behind in third — doing just enough to retain the Yellow Jersey. Feeley’s consistent presence at the front over the climbs also earned him the Polka Dot Jersey, marking him as the standout climber of the day.
It was a classic Ras Mumhan stage — unforgiving, dramatic, and raced from the front.
