LEINSTER ROAD RACE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2012
By Liam Ruth

About 170 signed on for the Leinster Championships today in Bunclody. A tough wind made the undulating championship circuit even tougher than usual.

A 12 man group split split away from the A1/2 race early in play leaving several favorites behind and the eventual winner came from this group. With the final 5kms almost all uphill, the tough finish still produced a stunning sprint finish with the photo finish required to separate gold medal winner Mark Dowling DID by a tyre width from local man David Walsh from promoting club Slaney CC. Martin Mizgajski took bronze.

No A1 team medals were awarded as no complete team of A1 riders completed the event. UCD took the A2 team award with Ian Richardson UCD taking A2 Gold. The veterans Gold went to David Peelo Kilcullen

Owen Morton UCD took a fine Gold medal in the A3 race crossing the line on his own ahead of Cian Delaney Stamullen with Brian Cullen Barrow Wheelers attacking in the run in to take Bronze. Barrow Wheelers also took Team Gold with Melanie Spath Cycleways Women's Champion and Ciaran Campbell Drogheda Junior Champion.

The A4 open race was dominated by American visitors from team KMS who took 1st and 2nd with Ansel Dickey and Brendan Rhim with Colm McGarvey Epic 3rd.
