A to Z of the International Junior Tour

A is for the art of getting the show on the road and that solely belongs to the LADY! Alice Sherratt continues to defy the obstacles.

Tommy Campbell

B is for the best of competitors that have gone through the amazing 'Greatest Little Tour' ever to grace the roads.

C is for those great words echoed down the years 'Todays' winners and 'tomorrows' champions. Plus of course Cycleways and SPIN for Jersies.

D is for dead heat but never in the history of the event has there been one. Could this be the year.

E is for evening when all connected to the race can relax.

F is for the followers who support the race.

G is for that other great event that runs each year in tandem with the JT.

H is for the herculean work that goes into getting the show on road each day.

I is the way that the Irish treat the visitors from afar who come to the event year in and year out. Also the Irish Veterans Cycle Association for their continued support.

J is for the man who started it all way back in 1978. Sadly he passed on a couple of years ago, but when the JT is mentioned that man JJ McCormack is the one name that comes to the fore.

K is for the King of the Hills. A jersey that is awarded each day for the cyclist that has the talent to eat up the tarmac on his way to gathering points. This year that jersey will be sponsored by Lough Lannagh Village, Castlebar.

L is for the ladies who do trojan work on behalf of the organisation, Catroline, Dolores, Jill,......

M is money that is kindly sponsored for the event and the melodious tones of Philip O'Brien who keeps us all briefed.

N is the numbers game. Thankfully the organisation has observed an increase in the numbers participating. Hopefully in the years ahead they'll break through the dizzy heights of former years.

O is organisation who defys the odds each year!

P is for the personalities who have gone on to greater. Just think in 1998, a young man called Bradley Wiggins was a contestant?

Q is for the queues in Lough Lannagh Village for the breakfast and the evening meal.

R is for the rapid results service courtesy of Gary McIlroy.

S is for StenaLine for their continued support. He may have been a stranger a couple of years ago, but Toby Stanton is a man to be respected. And of course the JT would not be the same with JILL from SA.

T is for the tent which is a niche part of the JT in many ways.

U is for the under the weather which is the most euphemism of the week. Plus those unseen heroes who do work in the background.

V is for victory associated with stage wins.

W is for Thomas Wrona the youngest winner of the JT and he's back to defend the title this time round. Also we have Henk Wintermann from Holland gracing us with his for the 20th year. And he knows how to deliver the goods.

X is for the extra effort that Alice and her team work to make everybody part of the JT.

Y is for YES in big capital letters denotes against the odds it goes to number 34!

Z is for ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ what everyone will need when the INTERNATIONAL JUNIOR TOUR is over for another year.
