With the Junior Tour hitting the headlines over in Castlebar, life continues in other venues around the county. Cyclesports Grand Prix in Dungarvan is one of the head liners along with Mark Hayden in Kildavin. The underage series supported by Leinster Cycling continues also in Corkagh Park. So, if you want a leisure cycle then it is the Bray Wheelers' promotion of the Paddy Martin Randonee around parts of the "Garden County.' Donamon Dynamos announce new sponsor.
CycleSports GP, Dungarvan
Dungarvan Cycling Club will again be staging their annual road races, the 'CycleSports Grand Prix', on Sunday. For the second year the race has been kindly sponsored by Paddy Morrissey of CycleSports. Racing will be on the usual Millstreet circuit with the finish up Colligan on the Dungarvan-Clonmel road. There will be an A2/A3 race, an A4 race, and underage racing. A former winner on the circuit, Damian Travers, is leaving the bike at home for the day and stepping into a new role as race organizer.
The club is going from strength to strength at the moment and while some familiar faces won't be competing there's been a plethora of new riders breaking through and moving up the ranks this year. The likes of Stephen Murray, winner in Midleton last week, and Dermot Gough will be hoping to maintain recent good form while old hands like Mark Power and the evergreen Ray Dwyer will be out to impress. Some of the in-form riders from neighbouring clubs hoping to take the honours include Comeragh's Barry Griffin, Waterford Racing's Mark Gunning and Barrow Wheeler's Hugh Byrne.
