Media Release: 07/01/2022

Cycling Ireland invites riders born in 2004 and 2005 to apply to be a part of the 2022 Junior Athlete Development Programme. Now in its third year, the programme is an evidence-based framework delivered by Cycling Ireland’s High Performance coaches and performance experts from multiple disciplines.

The benefits from the programme include individual feedback and input on training programmes, physiological testing (Covid-19 restrictions dependent), educational workshops, consultations with experts in life skills, sports nutrition and sports psychology, in addition to training camps (Covid-19 restrictions dependent).

Applications are welcome from male and female road, off-road (BMX, MTB XC & DH and Cyclocross) and track cyclists. While considerable resources of the programme will consist of concentrated work with a small core group of athletes, other educational inputs will be available to all applicants.

Please note that the ADP is in no way related to Irish national team selections which have their own criteria, so being selected, or not being selected for the programme will have no bearing or influence on selection for Irish teams.

An information Zoom meeting will be held on Wednesday 12th January at 8pm. The meeting will include inputs from 2021 programme members Aoife O’Brien and Darren Rafferty plus Thomas Fallon, Paul Carragher, Neill Delahaye and Martin O’Loughlin from Cycling Ireland. The meeting will conclude with a question and answer session where any queries about the programme and junior road and track season ahead can be addressed. All riders, parents and coaches and interested parties are most welcome to attend. Register for the Zoom meeting here.

The final date of application for the Athlete Development Programme and submission of data will be Sunday 23rd January. The application form can be found here.
