Cycling Ireland is trialling a new commuter membership option in 2023 aimed towards people in Ireland that cycle as a means of transport to and from work.

Cycling is one of the most efficient and sustainable methods of transportation in urban areas and we’ve developed a new membership specifically for commuters.

The Department of Transport’s Active Travel initiative has also seen roughly €1 million per day invested in Active Travel infrastructure such as cycle lanes, greenways and the bike to work scheme.

Our commuter membership offers many of the same benefits as our other membership packages, including insurance cover and retail discounts with some of our partners.

It also allows members access to our exclusive training hub, a quarterly newsletter and also helps support Cycling Ireland’s advocacy causes such as the Active Travel initiative.

We’ve partnered with Cycle Friendly Employer in the trialling of the membership, which can be purchased by individual employees through our membership portal.

Employers can also receive Cycle Friendly Employer accreditation, purchase commuter memberships and distribute them to employees.

Analog Devices, one of Limerick's largest employers, are an example of a company that has embraced the Cycling Ireland commuter membership. The company are Ireland's newest gold Cycle Friendly Employers and is leading Raheen's sustainable transition and encouraging employers, local authorities and communities to work together to drive climate action and get Limerick cycling.

Cycling Ireland Get Ireland Cycling Officer Paul Norton said:"We are delighted to be trialling the Cycle Friendly Employer Commuter Membership this year. The membership comes with many of the benefits of our other membership packages and helps us support advocacy of cycling as a sustainable method of transport."

"It is great to see an influential employer like Analog Devices embrace cycling by engaging with the Cycling Ireland Commuter Membership and the Cycling Friendly Employer initiative, and the evidence of its benefits is clear when you see the numbers of their employees cycling to work increasing from 4 to 1 percent."
