WINS FOR FOX AND HEALION


Morgan Fox (Murphy and Gunn/Newlyn Group) followed up on his win in last week’s Stephen Roche Grand Prix when he beat Stephen O’Sullivan (Myhome.ie/Cycleways) and Simon Coughlan (Dunamon Dynamo) to win the Eddie Tobin Memorial Race in Enniscorthy on Sunday. Brian Keane (All Systems Dublin Wheelers), Robin Kelly (Comeragh CC) and Andre Engeman (St. Tiernans) were also in the top six.

Category prizes went to David Butler (Comeragh CC, first unplaced senior 2), Martin O’Brien (Comeragh CC, overall combined race winner), Hughie Nestor (Murphy and Gunn/Newlyn Group, first vet) and Ketya Kalnberzina (first woman).

Frank Dunne (Slaney CC) and Bosco Flood (Slaney CC) took prizes as first Co. Wexford riders.

Meanwhile the Murphy and Gunn/Newlyn Group team were also victorious on Saturday when Paul Healion, Fox and Adrian Hedermann took the first three places in the Portarlington Festival Race. O’Sullivan was fourth and Simon Coughlan (Donamon Dynamos) and Sean Reynolds (Staggs Lucan) fifth and sixth.

Fergus Whelan (Staggs Lucan), Keith Fox (Murphy and Gunn/Newlyn Group), Seamus Kelly (Ena Lokman Remax) and Lorkan Davoust (South County Dublin) were first senior 2, senior 3, veteran and junior.

GRAY WINS NEWRY WHEELERS THREE DAY

Veteran rider Shaun Gray (Orchard Wheelers) came out best in the Newry Three Day over the weekend. He finished the four stage race 1 second ahead of Ryan Patton (Classic Walls), with Barry Mullan (Phoenix A) five seconds down in third.

Stuart Bennett (Phoenix A) was on the same time, while Alan Hall (Terry Dolan) and David Mulholland (Apollo A) were six and seven seconds back respectively in fifth and sixth.

Stage victories went to Mullan, Lenny Kirk (Slane Cycles), Bennett and Alastair Steele (Ciclisport). The final stage went over the Mournes, the route taking the riders up the tough Spelga Pass, but the Phoenix squad controlled things and ensured a bunch finish.

Phoenix A were best overall team and Urban Monks (Murphy and Gunn/Newlyn Group) won both the sprints and mountains competitions.
