CYCLING IRELAND ACADEMY TEAM ESTABLISHED

By Shane Stokes

With the Murphy and Gunn – Newlyn M. Donnelly Sean Kelly team now entering its second year, Cycling Ireland have announced the formation of a CI Academy team to operate out of the same base at the Sean Kelly Cycling Academy in Merchtem, Belgium.

The team will be under the supervision of Kurt Bogaerts, who will be assisted by performance manager Frank Campbell and newly appointed talent ID manager Tommy Evans.

The restructuring of the Academy will see the riders being supplied with equipment and clothing, as well as receiving world class medical and coaching back up.

Participating riders will be required to pay 50 euro per week towards accommodation and food costs.

The target group is aged between 18-25 but exceptions to this will be considered.

Those wishing to apply should write to Frank Campbell at the Cycling Ireland offices no later than February 1. They should give the following details:

1, CV, details of best performances.
2, Outline of goals and performance plan.
3, International experience.

Interviews will take place at Cycling Ireland in the second week of February.

ROAD COMMISSION GENERAL MEETING (press release)

In line with a requirement of Cycling Ireland, the Road Commission will convene a General Meeting on Sunday 21st January 2007, at the Straffan Court Hotel, Maynooth, County Kildare - at 11:00.

The purpose of the meeting is to elect a new Road Commission - consisting of Chairman, and Commission members as per the Cycling Ireland Guidance. Should any members of the Road Commission wish to put forward nominations or motions, please send to Cian Lynch at or phone number below.

Given that Frank Campbell is the High Performance Director, and no longer Chariman of the Road Commission, I shall deputise for the General Meeting, and request that a member of the Board of Cycling Ireland take charge during the nominations and elections to the Road Commission, as I will be contesting the position of Chariman.

If you have any queries, do not hesitate to ring me at 087 7971254.

Cian Lynch
Acting Chairman, Road Commission.
