Ballymena CC rider Conor McAllister came out best in the Rás Dhun na nGall, held over the weekend in and around Killybegs.

He finished seventh on Friday’s opening stage, crossing the line in the same time as the day’s winner Michael Duffy (Donamon Dynamos Ruby). The following morning he moved to the top of the general classification when he was second in the short time trial, finishing 6.81 seconds adrift of the mark set by Marcus Christie (Usher IRC).

That afternoon McAllister extended his lead over closest challenger Aaron Buggle from three to seven seconds, gaining that time when he placed third behind breakaway companions Brian Quinn (Limerick CC) and Michael Duffy (Donamon Dynamos Ruby). He then successfully defended that advantage on Sunday’s final leg of the race.

Charles Prendergast outsprinted Tom Shanahan (Limerick CC), Wes Murphy (Dublin Wheelers) and two others to net the stage victory, while McAllister kept tabs on Buggle to make sure of his overall win.

The latter finished second in the final general classification, ending the three-day event seven seconds back, while king of the mountains winner Shanahan was a further 18 seconds in arrears.
