We head northwards this weekend as Ireland’s elite riders take on Round Three of the National Road Series 2021. Banbridge CC will play host to a bumper of exciting racing on a challenging rolling course near Dromore for the John Beggs Memorial on Saturday, 14 August. This will be a spectacular edition with a finely balanced programme of races.

The 2021 edition of this great event will host the Cycling Ireland Women’s National Road Series which will run in conjunction of the Junior Women’s National Road Series. The Elite Men’s race will also incorporate the Junior Men’s National Road Series, with the races top Junior rider also receiving the Sean McGreevy Memorial Trophy. There is a big field expected for the Senior A3 only race also which will run on the spectacular course.

The riders will take on one of Ireland’s most difficult courses with the ascent of Ballykeel Hill as featured in the ‘traditional’ Beggs circuit, and with the climbs of Kinallen, Ballykeel and Drumlough also dotted around the 30km circuit.

Aaron Wallace, Race Director, said the event will provide a great opportunity for spectators along the race route.

“The Race Organisation have been working hard in the background to ensure the 2021 event lives up to the high standard set in previous editions of this classic race. We’ll be using the same challenging course as used from 2017, ensuring a worthy winner in all races, while also bringing the excitement and atmosphere of a National Series event to the local area.

“The Event will start and finish on Mount St, Dromore, while the main circuit will take in the villages of Kinallen and Dromara which should contribute to the spectator numbers along the route.

“We would like to send our gratitude for the support of our sponsors, Cycling Ulster and local company Turner Grain Engineering – we wouldn’t be able to hold the event without them.

“Whether you are competing, supporting or spectating we hope you have a safe and enjoyable event and enjoy the local hospitality as much as the racing which is sure to be fast and exciting,” he said.

All races with roll out from the Event HQ at 11:40 and will be escorted through Dromore town to the race start on Mount St. Races will commence in order between 12:00 – 12:10 following the rider briefings by the Event Organisation and Race Commissaires.

Projected finish times for the Elite & Junior Women’s National Road Series will be between 13:55 – 14:15, A3 Senior Men at 14:15 – 14:45, and the Elite & Junior Men’s National Road Series will cross the line between 14:50 – 15:15. Event HQ will be in Dromore High School, on Banbridge Rd, Dromore.
