Honda Ireland are gearing up for Rás na mBan this week when they will be the official cavalcade vehicle supplier for a third successive year.

A fleet of Honda CRV and Civic vehicles will escort and support the 125 riders representing 19 different nations and 25 national and international teams.

Riders from all over Europe, NewZealand, Asia and Africa are travelling to Kilkenny to ride the 13th edition of Ireland's top international stage race for women.

The five-day event includes 400km of road racing over a variety of terrain including the key stage four Honda Time Trial in Tullaroan.

The solo race against the clock will play a key role in deciding which rider will succeed Olympic gold medallist Elinor Barker as the champion of Rás na mBan 2018.

The time trial, 'race of truth' as it is known in cycle racing, is a rider on their own against the watch and the terrain with no aid from the slipstream of team mates or rivals and traditionally plays a central role in deciding who wins the race.

The event also includes four other tough road stages and a city centre race on Saturday evening (6.30pm) at which there will be a Honda display for the fans assembled in front of Kilkenny Castle.

Speaking at the announcement of Honda's renewed association with Rás na mBan, John Saunders Sales and Marketing Director of Honda Ireland said: "This is our third year proudly supporting Rás Na mBan and I am delighted for Honda to be associated with such a spectacular event.

"We wish all the athletes the very best of luck and in particular we look forward to seeing the best of women’s Irish cycling participating on an International level."
