Ireland got their Maniago Para-cycling World Cup off to a strong start with a gold and a bronze medal in the time trial events.

The women’s tandem duo of Katie-George Dunlevy and Linda Kelly put in a strong performance in the time trial to take the gold medal, while Josephine Healion and Eve McCrystal took fourth place on Friday, April 21st.

Earlier in the day, European time trial champion Ronan Grimes was on the podium in the men’s C4 time trial after a third place finish just 15.54 seconds behind gold medal winner, Louis Clincke from Belgium.

Damien Vereker and Mitchell McLaughlin secured a sixth place finish in the men's tandem time trial, an encouraging result in the duo’s first time competing together.

Chris Burns finished 11th in the men’s C2 time trial while Richael Timothy recorded a fifth placed finish in the women’s C3 time trial. On Thursday, April 20th, Declan Slevin finished 21st in the men’s H3 time trial.

Competition continues tomorrow as the focus switches to the road race events, Saturday with Declan Slevin competing in the MH3 Road Race. On Sunday, the rest of the squad will be in action in the road races where the team will hope to continue their strong form.
