Cycling Ireland are pleased to confirm the Ireland BMX team that will compete in the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships from August 3rd to 13th in Glasgow and Scotland.

Four riders have been selected to represent Ireland in the elite BMX events, including BMX Racing, BMX Freestyle Flatland and BMX Freestyle Park.

BMX Racing events take place on August 12th and 13th in Glasgow BMX Centre, BMX Freestyle Flatland events take place August 8th to 10th while BMX Freestyle Park events are scheduled for August 5th to 7th. Both BMX Freestyle Championships will be held at Glasgow Green.

BMX Racing will also include a challenge, non-elite participation, category, which takes place from August 6th to 10th. 53 Irish riders from five Irish clubs are scheduled to take part.

BMX Racing

Matthew Malone and Danny O'Gorman will represent Ireland in the elite BMX Racing events. Malone is a former elite BMX Racing national champion while Danny O'Gorman, from Cork BMX Club, will compete in the junior men's category. Both riders are competing in their first World Championships.

Malone made his debut as an elite at the first European Cup at the beginning of the season, but subsequently suffered a broken arm and returned to international competition at the UCI BMX Racing World Cup in June.

BMX Freestyle Flatland

52-year-old veteran Dino Jeffers is one of Ireland's most experienced athletes competing at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships having competed in the UK and Europe since the early 1990's. A bladder cancer survivor, Jeffers is deaf and advocates for members of the deaf community to get involved in BMX cycling. He founded Deaf BMX in 2014.

BMX Freestyle Park

Belfast rider Ryan Henderson will compete in the BMX Freestyle Park having previously represented Ireland at international events such as the European and World Championships.

In August 2022, the Belfast rider made history as he became the first Irish rider to compete in the BMX Freestyle Park European Championships, impressing as he picked up a 10th place finish. Henderson followed that up in November by becoming the first Irish rider to compete at the World Championships in the event. He also competed for Team Ireland at the 2023 European Games in June.
