Emerald Enduro - Back for 2016!

In 2015 the Enduro World Series stopped in Carrick, Co.Wicklow for round two. An epic day followed with seven stages in perfect conditions on a fantastic track and with the world's best duking it out for the top step of the podium.

A nation held it's breath as the thousands on the hill heard rumours that one of our own, Greg Callaghan, was having the ride of his life. Come the final selection, Greg rolled down the hill to take his first win on the EWS and kick off a party that went on and on into the small hours.

Riders, media, staff and supporters all had an amazing day and social media is still buzzing eight months later.

The good news is that it's coming back! The Enduro World Series will again visit Carrick this May, featuring as Round 3 and the first European stop.

In the mean time registration opens on Monday the 25th of January for all categories and a major change to registration sees a switch to a lottery system for the first time. Riders should register through the portal on www.enduroworldseries.com but more on that in a minute.

Team News

The off-season has seen its fair share of news as riders move teams. The big news at the end of last season was the retirement (from the full series at least) of 3 time Enduro World Series champion Tracy Moseley. Undeniably the best Enduro racer of all time, Moseley will only do selected events this year.

Filling her shoes in Trek Factory Racing (no pressure there then) is Scotland's Katy Winton who follows up a good season last year with a move to a bigger team. There's been big changes with Trek in the off season as the Atherton trio signed a new deal moving from GT to Trek. Dan Atherton will be racing selected EWS races on board a Trek too.

Winner of the Scottish round and runner up in Ireland, Justin Leov moves from Trek to Canyon, filling the seat vacated by the retirement of another EWS legend, Fabian Barel. The Kiwi has a point to prove after his season was cut short by injury whilst he held the series lead. Leov has a point to prove and is one to watch.

The major news in the mens field was the 2014 EWS champion Jared Graves moving to Specialized from Yeti. His 2015 season was also marred by injury as he separated both shoulders days before the opening race in New Zealand. Graves joins Curtis Keene and Hannah Barnes on the Specialized squad. Departing from that team is Anneke Beerten who moves to GT.

2016 Registration

The new lottery style entry system allows applicants 24 hours between 00:01 GMT and 23:59 GMT on Monday, January 25th to register for an individual or group ticket. After entries close tickets will be picked at random to fill the races and successful applicants will be emailed a private link they can then use to enter. Friends can also apply for a lottery ticket using the group option, meaning that a rider will only be allocated a place if the friends in their chosen group (up to three people) do too.

"This new entry system is fairer than before - by allowing riders 24 hours to sign up it negates any issues with time differences or slow internet speeds denying riders a spot", explained Chris Ball, Managing Director of the Enduro World Series - "Last year's events all sold out in under a minute and a lot of people missed out. There will always be more people who want to race than there are spaces so by moving to a lottery system this should make the playing field as even as possible".

Riders who have displayed exceptional talent or outstanding results can also apply for a wild card entry during the process on Monday the 25th - but with only 30 available for the entire season, they won't be easy to secure. Wild Cards are designed to reward only a select few talented riders who may have missed out on a qualification spot through conventional means (ie. injury) or come from an under-represented nation.

It's worth noting that you do not need a 2016 UCI licence or EMBA number to register. You can purchase a one day license at registration if you don't have one. But please do register EMBA, it helps grow our sport!!

There are just 400 spots available for the Emerald Enduro, with some already reserved for the world's top riders. We know there will be disappointment on registration day but we wish the best of luck to everyone entering.
