The Organisers of the 3rd edition of the Stephen Roche Tour De Cure were delighted the rain held off for the morning at least, of the event as the weather in Cork all week was awful with rain every day and rain was forecasted along with storms for the Saturday. The rain didn't just hold off but the Sun came out in the afternoon. Seasoned cyclists were estimating close on 1,600 were counted leaving the start and finish line in total for all 3 organised mass starts. By far the most viewed were in the 165km/100km mass start which left at 08.30am (check out the video clip on the homepage of the www.stephenrochetourdecure.com website) followed at 10.30am by the 50km and lastly at 12.30pm, the family run got under way for their short but still hard 14km.

Stephen Roche was absolutely delighted with all the numbers who turned out as were the charities in question who will benefit from the entry fees of all those who signed on and registered. The day was a delight for all those who took part with compliments being paid immediately on their return, all the issues the organisers were informed about in 2010 were acknowledged to be successfully resolved. There was one sad part, a participant Tim Smyth fell off during the 100km and had to be rushed to Waterford where he still is recovering, so the Tour De Cure, wishes him a speedy and healthy recovery.

Aidan Crowley speaking with IrishCycling.com "thanked all the sponsors especially MyHome.ie who were on board as Title Sponsors for the 2nd year, the great team of voluntary helpers which numbered 50 in total, the Gardai and the ambulance personnel. He was delighted with the turnout of participants but did mention one thing, for all Sportif Organisers to be aware of, only 1149 riders had registered for the Tour De Cure when one looks at the Sign On Sheet from the morning, paid and picked up their jerseys and goodie bag but everyone could see there were far more than that number on the roads leaving the start/finish line so he hoped the end was not starting for the Sportif Era, now that riders know it is hard to stop them being involved in the groups without paying the registration fee. At the end of the day, he says, its not only cheating the organisers who have gone out of their way marking the routes, getting sponsors in to cover costs and creating the food stops, but cheating the people in hospitals or the kids at Cope Foundation out of the things they need, when riders do this."
