McConvey had a dominant win in the under 23 classification. After nearly two hours of racing, he was three minutes and 16 seconds ahead of runner-up Samuele Porro (CBE Merida ASD) and a full nine minutes eleven seconds in front of Johannes Schweiggl (Team Silmax AMD Merida ASD). Apart from fourth-placed Lorenzo Martelli (Torpado 4US), the other youth riders were all lapped.
McConvey is Ireland’s most promising MTB rider and earned a contract with the Felt team for 2009. He will compete this season alongside former Olympic champion Miguel Martinez, who was fourth yesterday.
