One of the main talking points of the 2010 Kerry Group Rs Mumhan 2010 was the heroic ride that Neil Delahaye had done on Easter Sunday on the Waterville/Valentia stage. It was an heroic effort on his own into the teeth of a howling wind. To get away he attacked early with two others and dropped them on the climb on Valentia with some of the hardest riding still in front of him. While winning the stage was a just reward for his effort, the lack of recognition for the combative nature of his ride was something the race organisers felt needed to be addressed.

The 2011 Kerry Group Rs Mumhan will have a prize at the end of each stage for the most combative rider. The prize is a pair of Oakley Performance Sunnies. At the end of each stage, the commissaries will review the days racing and decide what rider is most deserving of the award. The organisers of the Kerry Group Rs Mumhan are delighted to be in a position to offer this valuable prize as it will reward aggressive riding and that is one of the core values of the Kerry Group Rs Mumhan. The Value of the sponsorship is in the region of 1,000.

Melina Joy
The prizes, from Oakley Performance Eyeware, for the most combative rider have been kindly sponsored by Melina Joy Opticians and supported by Urban Optics Killarney. Melina is a member of Killorglin Cycling Club and a lifelong cycling enthusiast. She was born, raised and educated in Killorglin and qualified as an optometrist out of DIT Kevin Street. Melina forged a career for herself in England over the past 25 years. She regards sport, at whatever level, as a much-needed ingredient to both develop and foster a spirit of determination for and in life. She is especially delighted to be able to give something back to the County in sponsoring this new category in Kerry Group Rs Mumhan.

The organisers of Kerry Group Rs Mumhan are delighted to accept this sponsorship as it fits so neatly into the philosophy of the race, which is to encourage aggressive racing.
