The scene is set for CREDIT UNION RAS MUMHAN 2006, 4 Day, 5 Stage International Cycle race to be held on the roads of Kerry over the Easter weekend, and is based in Killorglin.

It is now firmly established as the top Stage Race in the Ireland, outside of the FBD Ras, both in terms of the quality of the field and the race organization.

This year�s race will again be a 5-stage affair. Race Director Sean O Callaghan has introduced a new Stage on Saturday ,the Valentia Ring Stage.

The Race will begin on Friday evening at 2pm with the KILLORGLIN CREDIT UNION STAGE 1, taking the riders on a 52 mile loop through Killarney, Farranfore, Castleisland, Ballyseedy , Farmers Bridge and up the Sliabh Mish climb and back to finish up the hill in Killorglin.


Stage 2 on Saturday morning at 11am will see the race depart Killorglin for the VALENTIA RING STAGE. This will be an epic stage taking the riders around the famous Island of Valentia and all the way back through Cahirsiveen and on to finish in Killorglin after 100 miles of racing.

An early rise on Sunday morning for Stage 3 at 9am for the 6 mile Individual Time Trial from Beaufort to Killorglin.

Cahirsiveen is the venue for the new CAHIRSIVEEN CREDIT UNION CRITERIUM STAGE 4 on Sunday afternoon at 3.30pm. The crowds will flock to the streets of the South Kerry town to see International cycle racing at its best.

The race finishes on Easter Monday Morning , with the traditional WESTERN UNION Stage 5 at 10am, with the 3 laps of the Beaufort circuit and on to the smaller Donal McKenna circuit for the finale, a total of 58 miles, this stage will include KOM points for the first time this year.

All the top Irish teams will go to the line, and they will have 4 foreign squads for company. Leading the Irish challenge will be the new Murphy & Gunn Irish Professional team that will include last years winner John Dempsey, runner up Conor Murphy and former FBD Ras winner Andrew Roche are also on board. This team come to the race with 2 Stage races abroad in their legs, in South Africa and Serbia.

Cycleways / My Home.ie have 3 former winners of this race on their squad, Eugene Moriarty, Stephen O Sullivan and Brian Kenneally, as well as double FBD Ras winner Phillip Cassidy. Moriarty is current National Criterium Champion and finished last year ranked No. 1 . Aidan Crowley is another sure to like the Criterium.

Stamullen M Donnelly team include Bill Moore ,winner of the Phoenix Park Stage of the Ras last year. While Fermoy include Michael Hennessy and the Lynch brothers.

Dublin Wheelers will have Brian Keane, who lost the race lead and possible outright victory last year when he missed his slot in the Time Trial , Brian Taffe, and Listowel winner Ken Norgrove on duty.

The Dan Morrissey Carrick Wheelers are the form team of the moment and bring all their big guns including Rory Wyley, double Tour of Ulster winner Timmy Barry, and Martin O Loughlin last years Points winner, who won the Conor Pass Stage last year also.

The Earl of Desmond team will lead the Kerry challenge and Sean Lacey just back from injury will line out with Vincent Gleeson who won the Points classification here 3 years ago.
Theo Hardwick leads the promoting clubs team, weakened by the 2 Concannon brothers inclusion in the Sean Kelly team that also includes Paidi O Brien who is flying at the moment. Killarney also are represented with a 4 man team.

The Foreign opposition will be led by the Dutch Team AltiPower team that includes possible winner Thomas Rabou winner of the World Ranked Tour of Siam recently. Germany come to the race for the first time with the Team Fraher Under 23 squad. Belgium will have 2 riders on the Sean Kelly team Kurt Bogerts and Reino Stoffers . A 5 man team representing Surrey in England includes Simon Saunders winner of the opening stage last year, to complete the line up of 110 riders for this prestigious race.

The race is promoted and sponsored by the Killorglin Credit Union Cycling Club , with support from Cycling Ireland, Cycling Munster, Western Union ,Splash Designs & Cahirsiveen Credit Union.
